Lets go swimming.

Baby pools require very little commitment from its “swimmers,” if you can even call them that. At the very least one only has to take off their shoes and step into the six inch deep water. There is a time for baby pools, and it is when we are babies. It gives us enough of a feel for the water to be able to take the larger step into the pool, or even ocean with confidence.

The problem arises when it is time to move beyond the baby pool and jump into the ocean. We fight as hard as we can to stay in the baby pool. Jumping into the ocean requires 100% commitment to it. Once you jump there is no going back to the baby pool. You get immersed in the water.

We end up splashing the water from the baby pool all over us going, “I’m all wet, it’s the same.” But it is not. Chilling in the baby pool forever shows that though we know what is true, in the end we don’t trust Him enough to give Him all of ourselves.

The scary thing about the baby pool is that it kind of looks like you are in the ocean. You go to church, are involved in Bible studies, serve, and all that jazz, but in the end aren’t 100% committed. It’s a heart issue. It’s something we each have to deal with in ourselves. We can do things for Jesus without ever really knowing him. And that is scary. Because I’ve never prophesied, done miracles, or cast out demons. I just want to know Him and trust Him entirely. And that means giving Him all of me. That means jumping into the ocean.

We like to have control. I know I do. But God is infinitely better at being in control than we are. But we have to deny ourselves. When that happens we are able to be a bigger part of God’s plan than we ever could have by ourselves. See, once we get into the ocean we have a purpose there. We aren’t supposed to just swim around aimlessly. God has a purpose for us and has equipped us to do it for Him. We get to bring the Kingdom of God to earth in a way that is specific to each of us.

Now who would want to splash around in six inches of water when we have that invitation.
